Angkor wat is a decorative typography inspired by the architecture of ancient temple ‘Angkor Wat’ in Cambodia. The project is developed from my interest, which is Angkor Wat. I got interested after my trip to Cambodia. I got a chance to visit many ancient temples and was fascinated by how the ancient city was built in the past. This led to the main concept of this project.

The letterforms are based on the architecture of Angkor Wat. It was made from a sandstone brick, this made me think of lego and how it can be connected together just like a jigsaw. So I started from that idea and started looking at the architecture carefully and divided it into parts. The elements that I found interesting are pillars, column, base and roof. With these 4 elements rearranged as letterforms. The material that I chose is clay because it can easily shape to a form and can create details as well by carving.

Informative Poster

Travel Advertisement Poster

Angkor Wat is suitable with decorative, informal, playful and fun uses. The informative poster is made to showcase all the alphabet and to see when the alphabet is arranged in word. The design is inspired by the map of the Angkor area. The second poster, the travel advertisement poster, is made to persuade travelers to come visit the place by using the sentence ‘visiting Angkor’. I chose to illustrate the Angkor Wat sunrise, which is a tourist attraction. The medium is clay, the same as the letterform, to make the work look fun and in the same theme.
